29th First Families Luncheon
The Morrow County Genealogical Society held the celebration of its 38th year as a chartered chapter and its 29th First Families luncheon on April 25, 2015, in the meeting room of the Mt. Gilead Public Library annex. Twenty-three people enjoyed the catered roast beef meal prepared by the Morrow County Hospital’s Nutrition Services, with homemade desserts provided by Janet and Phylis Miller. Tables were decorated in a patriotic theme by Betty Meier.
JoAnne Fitzgerald presented the program relating some of her Pennsylvania family’s stories which she titled “Brought in a Little Black Bag.” Delivered at home by the local doctor who carried his equipment in the typical doctor’s black bag, JoAnne’s toddler sister assumed that was where her new baby sister had come from. Place favors were miniature black bags, filled with candy created by Betty Meier.
Achieving First Family status this year were: Wilma Lepore, Marleen Applegate, Harold Lehman, Ann Artrip and Verlton Kunze. The group proved a total of 22 ancestors who settled in Morrow County prior to 1850.
