We have recently received a Family History of the Davy family, published by Hope Kyle. The Davy family has ties to the Marengo area and the Fargo Church. Following is a short Biographical Sketch of the family in Hope’s own words.
“My great grandfather Rev Ralph Davy was born on January 2, 1871 in Bennington to Ezra J Davy and Olive Ann Wilson. He was originally a school teacher and minister in the Wesleyan church. He went to seminary in Houghton, New York, where he met my great grandmother, Josephine Cronk. They married in New York in June 1896. The family was back and forth between New York and Ohio for the next several years, and then settled in New Jersey, where he was the minister in the Succasunna Presbyterian Church and later Executive of the Morris and Orange Presbytery in New Jersey”.
“Ezra Davy was the oldest living Civil War veteran from Morrow County at the time of his death April 28, 1935, having served in Company D, 121st Infantry. Ezra was the son of Rev Henry Dorsey Davy and Elizabeth Leatherman. HD Davy was born in Fairfield Twp, Tuscarawas County, Ohio on May 4, 1811. His His parents John Davy and Ruth Dorsey came to Ohio from Frederick County, Maryland in or after 1803. They were initially granted land in the unappropriated lands of the Military District. I have a family history paper of sorts, written by another of HD Davy’s sons, that describes how the family basically hacked their way through forest to get to their land, where they built a rough log home!”
